We are proud to release Orkesta Mendoza's "Cumbia Volcadora" and "Caramelos" on glorious 7" vinyl. Get yours here: http://boogieburg.com/store
To talk about borders and the diasporas they create is to be pitched headlong into our era's most urgent global debate. Orkesta Mendoza's contribution to that debate is to show us what the Mexico-United States border sounds like and what masterpieces can be achieved by honest cultural exchange. What we decide to do with that information is up to us. With this record, however, we'll have an awful lot of fun deciding.
Focused, fierce and beautifully executed by a superbly drilled set of musicians, “Cumbia Volcadora” and “Caramelos” fully match Orkesta Mendoza's explosive live performances. Mexican electronic pioneer Camilo Lara (AKA Mexican Institute of Sound who has been remixed by Ad Rock of Beastie Boys and Tricky and has collaborated with Gogol Bordello, Sly and Robbie, Toots and The Maytals, N.A.S.A., Kool AD, Stereo MC's, and MC Lyte), Salvador Duran (who has lent his voice to Calexico and Iron and Wine), Quetzal Guerrero (of Osunlade's Yoruba Records), and Ceci Bastida (of Nacional Records) join forces with Tucson's Orkesta Mendoza (lead by Calexico's Sergio Mendoza) on Boogieburg's fourth vinyl release housed in a hand-stamped antique green “old style” sleeve.

Always innovating and exploring new musical frontiers has been the hallmark of Black Masala as they have made their mark in the last few years. Never afraid to draw upon new influences and genres, the band has also reached out to some amazing producers around the world to rework and remix their original songs. The I Love You Madly Remixed Volume 3 release showcases the eclectic and unorthodox sounds which Black Masala have become known for.
First up is Dutch producer Solo Moderna, himself known for pushing musical boundaries, and his remix of Haute Cultura. Drawing heavily upon the horns, percussion and guitar Solo Moderna has crafted a bizarre ride, and if close your eyes you can just imagine yourself in a bazaar full of colors and exotic scents. The remix will do well on the dancefloor, with its relentless Balkumbia driving beats and fun, playful mood.
Hailing from Victoria, BC is Canadian producer Palletz who recently dropped sick remixes of Fort Knox Five and See-I, among others. He has stripped down “Too Hot To Wait” and built it back up again, and the result is firing on all pistons! Nothing is off limits on Palletz' remix, and the beats and vocals get a full trap style reworking, with some funky breaks and builds throughout. The result is a high energy, bass-heavy banger which will do heavy damage in the clubs, such a fun remix.
Closing out the third and final volume of I Love You Madly Remixes is Spark Arrester, our good friend, promoter and DJ from Blacksburg, VA. Spark Arrester also remixed “Too Hot To Wait”, but took the track in a different direction altogether. This remix keeps the same Gypsy vibe of the original, boosting it up with additional drums, bass and effects. The horns of the original are featured throughout and this is a very smooth tune with a very laid back funk vibe.
Black Masala are excited to share these reinterpretations of their music with the world, taking their sound in new directions and incorporating a variety of styles. The third and final installment of the remix series includes genres as varied as Breaks, Funk, Trap and Balkumbia. This is the globalization of music and its a lot of fun, so enjoy the music and get down to these beats.

Nothing shy about this sweet little number – especially when Kenny Dope is on hand, to make sure the groove comes out totally great! The tune's got a slinky stepping approach to funk – with some nicely chromatic guitar riffing around sweet sliding strings – but there's also a nice drum break at the bottom, which kicks the tune off magnificently at the start! The flipside definitely gets the promised cumbia rework – slightly Latin-ized, but more in a Quantic funky sort of way! © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

After dozens of digital self-releases and physical releases on labels around the world alongside the likes of Featurecast, Basement Freaks, Wax Tailor, Mr. Scruff, Palov & Mishkin, WillDaBeast (of Pretty Lights Music), Skeewiff, and Parov Stelar this is the first 7” vinyl release by Spark Arrester on Boogieburg Recordings.
“Slow Burners Vol. 1” features two smoldering, beat-heavy, slow burners from the Boogieburg vaults produced with an old school hip-hop mindset and a love for the more modern sounds of electro soul, glitch hop, and ghetto funk. On the A-Side, “Windy City Soul” samples elements of “25 or 6 to 4” by Chicago and combines chunky drums, funk guitar played by Giorgos Fotiadis (of Basement Freaks), and a heavy bass line. On the flip, “Long Black Road” takes a look at more recent rock music sampling a Japan-only release from the early 2000’s by legends Electric Light Orchestra. Both tracks were mixed and mastered by Warp9 (Adapted Records, Scour Records, Swing Set Sounds, Philos Records) who reached #1 on Beatport’s Glitch Hop Chart this year.

New music for you! We are proud to release a smoldering, slow-burning addition to the Spark Arrester discography. "Soften The Blow" features a 'modest' sampling of a rather well known Washington-based folk/rock band building upon a few chunks of banjo and vocals. Growing up attending countless bluegrass festivals and in recent years playing alongside heavy-hitting acts like multiple artists from the Pretty Lights Music family, it's no surprise to hear a banjo sample turn into a Spark Arrester electro-folk weapon. The mastering skills of Warp9 were called upon for this one and we are more than impressed. Check him out at http://www.warp9music.com. This is yet another free release and you can grab it below in the player. Alternatively, if you are a fan of Bandcamp and the "Name Your Price" philosophy, you can head over to the Bandcamp player below the Soundcloud one. Enjoy!

We are proud to release the new "Yiri Sun" EP by Spark Arrester. "Yiri Yiri Boom" features Afro-Cuban sounds from 1980's Benin (Western Africa), thick MPC-style hiphop beats, gorgeous strings, reggae-tinged keys, and synths that hint towards Spark Arrester's influences from performing alongside heavy hitters in the world of electro-soul. "Theme of the Sun" samples the early 1970's work of Rodriguez, this time as an upbeat, full on string-filled funk affair that brings timeless sounds to a modern, forward-thinking dancefloor. Two tracks that show the versatility of the Boogieburg sound and the love for many decades of music. Enjoy this free release!

We are pleased to announce that we have a new release from Spark Arrester titled "Windy City Soul". This tune is a smoldering glitchy, ghetto funk / electro soul slow burner. This versatile track rocks nice 'n heavy at 90BPM, draws from Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4", features the funk guitar licks of Giorgos Fotiadis of Basement Freaks, and was mastered by Warp9. "Windy City Soul" makes for a perfect transitional track to 180BPM drum 'n bass, too. It is available for free download as a high quality mp3 and also WAV format.
